Honorable Mayor and Councilors
City Manager
City Attorney
Clerk of Council
Subject: The Planning Division has recommended to the Council of Columbus that the text
amendment adding ?Warehousing and storage? as a principal use in the MROD (Mill
Restoration Overlay District), be approved. A copy of the Staff Report is
enclosed for your information.
Respectfully,
Staff Report
- Application
- The Planning Division is proposing to add ?Warehousing and storage? as a
principal use in the MROD (Mill Restoration Overlay District). When the MROD
was created, ?warehousing and storage? was left out as a principal use. Due to
the size of some of the mills in Columbus, ?warehousing and storage? should be
allowed so that the larger mills, such as the Bibb Mill, the Eagle and Phenix
Mill, and the Jordan Mill, can better utilize the property. Due to the
demographics and growth patterns of Columbus, it can be deducted that focusing
on vacant mills as retail, residential, restaurants, and offices only may not
allow for full use of a large site. The inclusion of warehousing and storage
may also allow vacant mills used for residential purposes to offer storage to
their tenants.
- Proposed Text Amendment
- Amend Sec. 22-26.3 MROD Mill Restoration Overlay District as follows:
Add Sec. 22-26.3 (A)(8)(A)(9.1)(a) to read as follows:
(A)(8)(A) Amendment to Zoning Ordinance:
(9.1) Storage.
(a) Warehousing and storage.
- Planning Advisory Commission Recommendation
- The Planning Advisory Commission considered this text amendment at their
meeting on
December 3, 2003. The Planning Advisory Commission recommended approval of the
text amendment.
- Planning Department Recommendation
- The Planning Division recommends approval of text amendment.
