Council Members
WHEREAS, Columbus preservationist Charlotte Hawkins Frazier recently received
the 2004 Governor's Award in the Humanities at a ceremony held in Atlanta,
Georgia;
WHEREAS, Ms. Frazier was one of nine Georgians, including Columbus Mayor Robert
S. Poydasheff, to receive this prestigious award;
WHEREAS, she was instrumental in organizing the William H. Spencer Owlettes on
September 9, 1972 and in 1980, they secured the historic Liberty Theatre after
reaching an agreement to restore it to its original condition;
WHEREAS, she has received an Historic Chattahoochee Commission award in 1991
for her efforts to preserve and promote properties in Columbus of historic and
architectural significance;
WHEREAS, in 2001, she was also presented a Preservation Award from the Georgia
Historic Preservation Division and she has been recognized for preservation
efforts by the Columbus Council and members of the Georgia General Assembly.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Charlotte Hawkins Frazier upon her receipt
of the 2004 Governor's Award in the Humanities. We appreciate her efforts in
the field of historic preservation and we wish her every success in the future.
Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Charlotte Hawkins Frazier.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
10th day of August, 2004, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote
of ten members of Council.
