Subject Election
Description Once the election is over with, have the staff to give us a final
turn around time; because the recount was done one week and then the absentee
ballot date was not done until the following week. (Request of Councilor

Response
Just thought I would give you a time line of events in case council has a
question about the absentee balloting today. The election was Tuesday, August
20th. A recount for the Mayor's race in Hardaway precinct was held on August
26th and a county wide recount for the office of School Board at Large was held
on August 27th. The Board of Elections certified Muscogee County's election
results on August 27th and sent election results to the Secretary of State.
The Secretary of State certified the statewide election results on August
29th. A state wide recount was requested by the Republican challenger for the
office of Secretary of State on August 30th. This state wide recount was held
on Monday, September 2nd. The absentee balloting process began on Tuesday,
September 3rd. More than 1,300 absentee ballots were issued between September
3rd and September 9th. This is quite an accomplishment considering 1600
ballots were issued during the five week absentee period of the primary.
