SUBJECT: Nunn-Lugar-Domenici Domestic Preparedness Equipment Program

Recommendation: Authorize the City Manager to accept a grant from the
Nunn-Lugar-Domenici Domestic Preparedness Equipment Program for $280,000 and
amend the budget by increasing the Multi-Governmental Fund by $280,000.
Background: This grant will enhance the response capabilities of our first
responder agencies to respond to incidents of terrorism involving chemical and
biological weapons of mass destruction.
Analysis: This program provides our city with equipment support to enhance
our capacity to respond to incidents of terrorism involving the use of a weapon
of mass destruction. It provides for the procurement of personal protection,
detection and decontamination equipment which will enhance our response
capabilities to a weapon of mass destruction incident by utilizing with
equipment identical to that which would be used in the event of an actual
weapon of mass destruction incident.
Financial Considerations: The attached resolution will authorize the
acceptance of the grant of $280,000, no matching funds are required. This is a
reimbursement grant program. The City will be required to operate this
equipment with current operating funds.
Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government is an eligible
applicant for this grant program.
