A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT UP TO $96,611.60 IN FUNDING

FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE BULLETPROOF VEST PARTNERSHIP GRANT TO SUPPORT

THE COSTS OF BUYING BODY ARMOR FOR THE PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCIES.



WHEREAS, the Columbus Consolidated Government is committed to providing body

armor to law enforcement officers in the city;



WHEREAS, the Department of Justice has initiated the Bulletproof Vest

Partnership Grant of 2003 to provide funding to assist units of local

government in equipping law enforcement officers with body armor;



WHEREAS, the Department of Justice will reimburse local governments for up to

50% of the cost of body armor;



WHEREAS, funding for body armor is allocated in the FY2003 and FY2004 budget;



WHEREAS, the Columbus Police Department requests permission to make application

to receive up to $96,611.60 in funding to assist in the purchase of body armor

for all public safety agencies;



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



The City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for and accept, if approved,

$96,611.60 in funding from the Department of Justice Bulletproof Partnership

Program.



Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the

day of, _________ 2003 and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative

vote of members of said Council.
