Recommendation: Establish the Circuit wide Public Defenders Base budget from

January 1 ? June 30, 2005 for Muscogee County at $478,000 and authorize the

Mayor to enter into a contract for the same period with the Georgia Public

Defender Standards Council to provide administrative support for Public

Defender personnel in the Superior and Juvenile Court.



Background: The Georgia Public Defender Standards Council has agreed to provide

the following services to public defender personnel in Superior and Juvenile

Court in consideration of an administrative fee of 10% ($21,550). These

services include: payroll, fringe benefits, training, travel, computer

hardware, computer software and legal research software. This fee will be

added to the base budget and will be funded by all counties in the

Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit on a population basis.



Analysis: This contract has been reviewed by the Finance Department and is

recommended for approval.



Financial Considerations: The 10% administrative fee will be $21,550.



Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government is eligible to enter

into this contract.
