Subject Muscogee County School District



Description Check with the Muscogee County School District to see how many

children are living outside the County, but are attending Muscogee County

Schools. Find out if they have taken into consideration the overcrowding

situation to see about putting that on hold for a while. (Request of Councilor

Henderson)

Response State law allows teachers who teach in Muscogee County to enroll their

children in Muscogee County Schools. Other students from outside the county can

enroll in our school system at the discretion of the MCSD. However, they must

pay approximately $1800 in tuition to MCSD. The school district also receives

the state supplement for those children. We have asked for the numbers of

students in that category.



Currently there are 206 non-resident students. One hundred ten (110) of these

are children of employees. Ninety-six (96) other non-resident students are

dispersed among 36 schools. Non-resident requests may be made, but are only

approved if space is available at school and grade.
