A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR , AND IF APPROVED,

ACCEPT A GRANT OF $150,000 FROM THE FY 2003 BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE MENTAL

HEALTH COURT GRANT PROGRAM. THESE FUNDS WILL BE USED TO SUPPORT THE

IMPLEMENTATION OF A COURT PROGRAM FOR OFFENDERS WITH MENTAL ILLNESS.



WHEREAS, funds are available from the BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE for the

FY2003 Mental Health Court Grant Program to implement a mental health court

program and,



WHEREAS, our community will benefit from the ability to divert persons with

mental illness who commit non-violent offenses to a specialty court which will

mandate treatment and decrease jail time; and,



WHEREAS, the grant is a 75/25 proposal with a Federal Share of $150,000 over

two years and a local share of $37,500 in-kind contribution match; and,



WHEREAS, this grant proposal requires a 25% matching funds ($37,500) in in-kind

contributions.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:





That approval is hereby given for the City Manager to apply for, and if

approved, accept a grant of $150,000 from the FY 2003 Bureau of Justice

Assistance Mental Health Grant Program. These funds will be used to implement

a Mental Health Court program.
