Steve Butler, Vice Chairman, noting that a quorum was present and proper notice
had been given in accordance with the requirements of Georgia law, called the
May 23, 2002 meeting to order.
Steve Butler announced that the purpose of this called meeting is to finalize
the request for needed funds by the Authority to the City Council at its
Tuesday Work Session. He reviewed the charge of the Authority. The Authority
has got to have an effective plan in order to compete and be aggressive in
attracting new companies and help local companies to expand. The Authority has
contracted with the Columbus Chamber of Commerce to provide economic
development services to the Authority.
Comments were made by members and others in attendance.
The document identifies as ?Priority Needs 2002-2003? was presented which sets
forth the needs of the Authority. It was pointed out that the list is based on
the current estimate of needs and should not be viewed as requiring the
specific expenditures in the order shown. Flexibility is necessary since needs
might change. This is a guideline not a line-item budget. The proposal is for
annual funding through a millage rate of 0.25 mills from the City to the
Development Authority for economic development.
Upon motion made by Allen Taber and seconded by Dick Ellis, the Authority
unanimously approved the Resolution in the form attached hereto as Exhibit ?A?
requesting City Council to designate 0.25 mills annually to the Development
Authority of Columbus, Georgia for economic development. It was decided that
Steve Butler would make the presentation to the City Council.
There being no further business to come before the Authority, the meeting was
adjourned.
