A RESOLUTION
NO. ___________
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AND IF APPROVED,
ACCEPT A GRANT OF $138,000 FROM UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY
2005 ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT PROGRAM. THESE FUNDS WILL BE UTILIZED TO
PURCHASE PHYSICAL FITNESS EQUIPMENT FOR EACH OF THE 14 FIRE STATIONS.
WHEREAS, firefighting is an extremely physically demanding occupation;
and,
WHEREAS, cardiac arrest continues to be the number one killer of
firefighters in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Homeland Security has
allocated grant funds through the 2005 Assistance To Firefighter?s Grant
Program; and,
WHEREAS, the Columbus Department of Fire and EMS has developed a grant
proposal to purchase physical fitness equipment for each of the city?s fire
stations; and,
WHEREAS, the equipment will be utilized to increase the fitness of
fire/EMS personnel thus reducing the risk of injury or fatalities and enhancing
their response capabilities; and,
WHEREAS, the grant is an 80/20 proposal with a federal share of
$110,400 and a local share of $27,600 for a total of $138,000; and,
WHEREAS, this grant proposal requires a 20% matching funds ($27,600)
which will be funded from the contingency fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HERBY RESOLVES:
1) That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit and if approved, accept
an Assistance To Firefighters Grant of $138,000 from the United States
Department of Homeland Security.
2) Amend the budget through increasing the Multi-Governmental Fund by $138,000
or the actual amount funded.
3) Provide the required match of $27,600 to be funded through the General Fund
Contingency Fund
