Program Outline
There are a few changes that GMA is incorporating in an effort to keep the
registration fee as low as possible.
First, we have lowered the member registration fee and will be replacing the
Awards and Installation Banquet on Monday evening with an Awards and
Installation Breakfast on Tuesday morning. This will be a separate ticketed
event. Please make sure to ask your folks if they want a ticket to the
breakfast or not, so that they do not come to Savannah expecting that meal if
they have not paid for it.
Also, we have cut the registration fee for spouses and will not be offering
spouse tours this year. There are many tour operators on River Street that
offer quite a variety of tours. We have found that we do not usually meet the
minimum requirement when we schedule special tours and therefore, GMA has to
pay for the empty seats. The spouse registration fee covers the Festival of
Foods on Tuesday night, the delegate gift and door prize tickets.
Additionally, we have cut the child registration fee and will not offer a Kids'
Korner during exhibit hall hours. We will have a Kids' Korner on Tuesday
evening at the Civic Center during the Casino Party.
Due to declining participation the last couple of years, we are discontinuing
the youth delegate program. Of course, we still encourage you to register your
youth leaders as a child and bring them to the GMA sessions with you.
We are offering one new training course called Council/Staff relationships.
This course was offered last spring in Rome as a pilot. Please do not register
for this course if you took the April class.
There are several exciting hotel changes. First, the Hyatt has been completely
renovated over the past couple of months. The lobby has a completely different
look and feel and all meeting rooms and sleeping rooms have been redecorated.
Also, the Radisson Inn on Bay Street is now a Doubletree, which is a Hilton
property. Just next door to the Doubletree is a brand new hotel, scheduled to
open in late May, called the Garden Hotel. It will be similar in look and
service to the Hampton Inn and the Doubletree Inn.
