THE GREATER COLUMBUS GOLF AUTHORITY
MINUTES OF MEETING
February 24, 2004
The Greater Columbus Golf Authority held the scheduled monthly meeting at Bull
Creek Golf Course. Members present were Chairman Donald Clack, Floyd
Washington, June Holder, Earl Bagley, Richard Hagler, Willie Hill, Rhudine
Nelson, Rick Cravens and Nancy Wilkeson. Staff members present were John Milam
and Steve Brown.
Minutes of the January 27, 2004, meeting were approved as presented. Motion
made by Richard Hagler and seconded by Rhudine Nelson.
Report of Steve Brown, Superintendent
The greens on the East were painted last week. Depending on the temperature,
aeration of the greens with hydro-jet will be done in the coming weeks. The
sand that was added is too soft and they have removed the spikes from the
bunker rake to solve this problem. Catch basins were installed in the
fairways on holes 2 and 3 on the West Course. Rip rap stones and concrete from
damaged cart paths were added to 3 West (green side of creek) to halt erosion.
The drain culvert was repaired at 4 fairway East. Herbicide will be sprayed on
the East and West fairways instead of using a herbicide/fertilizer blend due to
cost. Approximate saving of $10,000. Inmate labor will start working on
Saturdays in the next few weeks. Additional labor will be needed for Sundays.
Godwin Creek
Godwin Creek?s deficit last month was $280. They have $422 in the bank. Three
thousand dollars is due from the Yancey Foundation. The Columbus Sports
Authority gave $100 donation to Godwin Creek. The city fixed the ceiling in
the pro shop. The city will also dig the silt out of the lake when the weather
improves. The pump is still down.
Report of John Milam, Director of Golf
Financial Report:
Too many days with cold temperatures or rainy conditions brought the revenue
down. Oxbow Creek is down $9000 from last year during the month of February.
Bull Creek is behind almost $100,000 in revenue from last year.
Project Update:
The contractor should return in April weather permitting. The 13th green will
be redone and work on holes 16, 17 and 18 fairways need to be top-dressed.
Ball Fields:
Bull Creek will ask Isaiah Hugley that we would like a privacy fence installed
instead of a higher chain link fence near 6 green and 7 tee box on the West.
This will protect the golf course from the two practice ball fields at Psalmond
Road Park. Our concerns are noise, security, traffic and water run off.
A motion was made at 4:20 p.m. to adjourn by Richard Hagler and seconded by
June Holder.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
