Hispanic Business Outreach Task Force Recommendations



Hispanic Business Outreach Task Force Mission ? To develop and implement the

model for the Chamber to support and grow Hispanic businesses.



Hispanic Business Outreach Task Force Goals

? Form Task Force ? Twenty volunteers

? Compile database of Hispanic Businesses Owners ? Seventy-nine businesses have

been identified.

? Define target market (who, where) ? Hispanic-owned in Columbus, Phenix City

MSA. Hispanic-owned businesses are those where the sole proprietor identifies

his or her origin as Cuban, "Mexican, Mexican Am., Chicano", Puerto Rican,

Spaniard, Hispanic Latin American, or, in the case of firms with multiple

owners, where 51 percent or more of stock interest, claims or rights were held

by Hispanics so determined.

? Find out what they think they need ? Hispanic-owned businesses hesitant to

risk rejection; trust issue; events in the morning; and some events and

meetings in Spanish

? Hold a reception and news conference ? Reception, 4/29/02; Press Conference,

5/20/02

? Recommend Outreach Support Structure ? as a Small Business Development

Department Committee; new Chair, Efrain Hernandez

? Recommend Outreach Pricing/Application ? Regular Chamber dues for full

benefits with quarterly payments available and free access to the Business One

Stop Shop (BOSS)



Hispanic Business Committee Mission ? To support and grow Hispanic businesses.



Hispanic Business Committee Goals

? Serve as a bridge to existing programs

? Engage local employers for business

? Design, implement, and market new programs for HBO

? Identify participants for Leadership Columbus

? Gain representation on strategic local boards and committees

? Encourage Spanish language capability in service provider organizations
