WHEREAS, proposed legislation in the Georgia General Assembly (Senate Bill 338)

seeks to establish a grant program to be administered by the Georgia Department

of Human Resources to assist communities in acquisition and distribution of

automated external defibrillators (AED);



WHEREAS, these lifesaving devices have been developed to allow trained lay

rescuers to respond to cardiac arrest by shocking the heart into a normal

rhythm;



WHEREAS, under the proposed legislation, the Department of Human Resources

would be authorized to award grants to community partnerships made up of local

emergency response entities such as community training facilities, local

emergency responders, fire and rescue departments, police, community hospitals

and local nonprofit entities and for-profit entities concerned about cardiac

arrest survival rates;



WHEREAS, this Council desires to support this proposed legislation.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby express our support for proposed legislation which would implement a

grant program under the Georgia Department of Human Resources to assist

communities in acquisition and distribution of automated external

defibrillators. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to each member of

the local legislative delegation to the Georgia General Assembly.
