A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the annual protest against the Western Hemisphere Institute for

Security Cooperation at Fort Benning (formerly known as School of the Americas)

was held in Columbus on November 18 and 19, 2001;



WHEREAS, dozens of Columbus Public Safety personnel worked during this event to

ensure security for the Columbus community, visitors and protesters;



WHEREAS, units from the Columbus Police Department, Muscogee County Sheriff's

Department and Columbus Fire and EMS Department worked this event in

cooperation with security at Fort Benning;



WHEREAS, all of these employees deserve special recognition and appreciation

from this Council and the Columbus community.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We commend and express our deep appreciation to Columbus Police Chief Willie

Dozier, Muscogee County Sheriff Ralph Johnson, Fire Chief Roy Waters, EMS Chief

David Arrington, Mayor Bobby Peters and their personnel for their outstanding

work during the protest held against the Western Hemisphere Institute for

Security Cooperation at Fort Benning on November 18 and 19, 2001. This Council

and Columbus citizens are truly proud of their dedication to the safety and

security of our community and visitors during this event. Let a copy of this

resolution be forwarded to Columbus Police Chief Willie Dozier, Muscogee County

Sheriff Ralph Johnson, Fire Chief Roy Waters, EMS Chief David Arrington and

Mayor Bobby Peters.
