The Elections and Voter Registration Board meeting was held Thursday, May 6,

2004 at 2:00 p.m.

S Y N O P S I S



The Board of Elections and Voter Registration Board Meeting was called to order

by the Chairperson, Walter J. Wright, Jr.



COMMENTS:



The board was told that the petition for the recall of the sheriff had not been

received as of yet. Reverend Howell has until 5:00 this day to bring it in.



NEW BUSINESS:



After reviewing the evidence that Jeremy Hobbs provided, the board voted 4 to 1

that Mr. Hobbs is a qualified candidate for Council Post 8 and should appear on

the ballot.



The board discussed how the encoders should be programmed for the July

election. During the Presidential Preference Primary, the default was

non-partisan. Since the Governor is a Republican, the board agreed that the

encoders should be programmed with Republican first, Democrat second, and

non-Partisan to be last that will show on the encoder screen. The precinct

managers will be told that no encoding ahead of time will be allowed.



PRECINCT CHANGES: The Rigdon Precinct will be relocated to

Adahilia

Mack Park Recreation Center. The Comer Precinct will be

moved to the Fox Recreational Center. The Double Churches Precinct moved to

St. Mark United Methodist Church. Beallwood Precinct moved to Northside

Baptist Church and the Shaw Precinct will be moved to St. Andrews Presbyterian

Church.









The board voted that 10% Republican ballots, 10% Democrat ballots and 5%

Non-Partisan ballots be ordered for the absentee, provisional and challenged

ballots.



Mr. Uhland Roberts made a motion to accept the minutes April board meeting.

Motion seconded, vote unanimous.





OLD BUSINESS:



Nancy advised the board that she has received 29 names of students who attend

Jordan High School that are interested in working at the polls.



The board was given the names of the precinct managers who have committed to

being area managers. A separate training session will be held for area

managers. Training for precinct workers will be held in the Learning Center,

East Wing 2nd floor June 29th through July 2nd.





CORRESPONDENCE:



The board was given a copy of the letter that was received from Kathy Rogers,

Secretary of State?s Office.



Being no further business to discuss, motion was made and seconded to adjourn

the meeting. Vote was unanimous.
