AN ORDINANCE

An Ordinance amending Chapter 2 of the Columbus Code so as to place the

administrative functions and duties of the Clerk/Chief Administrative Officer

of Recorder's Court under the supervision of the Muscogee County Sheriff;

deleting the position of Finance Manager of Recorder's Court and reclassifying

the current general government position of Recorder's Court Clerk to a Judicial

Administrative Technician II; and for other purposes.

THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY ORDAINS:



SECTION 1.



Columbus Code Section 2-11 is hereby amended by deleting

subsections (a), (b), (c), (d), and (e) in their entirety and by substituting

in lieu thereof new subsections (a), (b), (c), (d), and (e) to read as

follows:



"(a) Creation of Office. There is hereby created the office of

Clerk/Chief Administrative Officer of the Recorder's Court of Columbus, Georgia.



(b) Appointment. The Clerk/Chief Administrative Officer shall be

appointed by the Muscogee County Sheriff, shall be a sworn deputy of the

Muscogee County Sheriff's Department and shall hold office at the will of the

Muscogee County Sheriff.



(c) Duties. The Clerk/Chief Administrative Officer of the

Recorder's Court shall be the custodian of the official records of such court;

shall keep the dockets of the court; attend the sessions of the court; certify

to and affix the seal of the court to transcripts of records of the court; be

under the administrative supervision of the Muscogee County Sheriff and perform

such acts in connection with his/her duties as may be required by law.



(d) Salary. The salary of the Clerk/Chief Administrative Officer of the

Recorder's Court shall be fixed by Ordinance of the Columbus Council.



(e) Clerk pro tem. Pending the illness or absence of the Clerk/Chief

Administrative Officer of the Recorder's Court, the Muscogee County Sheriff may

appoint a clerk pro tempore or deputy clerks to perform the duties of the

Clerk/Chief Administrative Officer."



SECTION 2.



The position classification plan of the Columbus, Georgia consolidated

government is hereby amended by deleting the position of Finance Manager of

Recorder's Court and by reclassifying the current general government position

of Recorder's Court Clerk to a Judicial Administrative Technician II.



SECTION 3.



All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are

hereby repealed.
