The Board of Elections and Voter Registration board meeting was called to order

by the Chairperson, Walter J. Wright, Jr.

COMMENTS:

Nancy told the board that the Georgia Election Officials Association Conference

will be held May 16-19, 2004 in Augusta, Georgia. She asked if any board

member wanted to attend so that reservations could be made. The Voter

Registrars Association of Georgia Conference will be held in Atlanta June 6-9,

2004.

Nancy stated that the State will be providing Diebold support for the July

Primary. Mr. Wright asked if there was any opposition from the board to have

the support. No opposition was voiced.

Mr. Uhland Roberts made a motion to accept the March board meeting minutes.

Motion seconded, vote unanimous.

NEW BUSINESS:

Because of the change in re-districting every registered voter will receive new

precinct cards. Nancy presented the board with precinct changes that she is

proposing so that the registered voters will be notified when new precinct

cards are mailed. This will save on our postage since the State will be

funding the mailing. Mr. Roberts made a motion to accept the proposed precinct

changes. Motion seconded. Vote unanimous.

OLD BUSINESS:

Area Managers: In the past the area managers were assigned specific

precincts. The duties of the area managers were to have supplies available

for the assigned precincts. Nancy recommended that the area managers be

working managers of a precinct so that they will have hands on knowledge about

what it takes to operate a precinct. Nancy stated that she would like to have

the area managers in place for the July Primary to make sure the encoder clerks

are encoding the way they should and to give more attention to the split

precincts, especially first thing in the morning to ensure the clerks

understand the splits. Motion was made to hire 6 area managers at $185.00 plus

mileage. Motion seconded, vote unanimous.

The board discussed using rising seniors from the different high schools to

work during the November election.

CORRESPONDENCE:

A letter was received from Gladys Daise, the precinct manager in reference to

her probation period. After discussion, the Board voted to rescind the 6

months probation.

Being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
