PRESS RELEASE
Columbus Park Crossing Kicks Off Next Phase With Kohl?s Department Store
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Columbus, GA ? November 17th, 2005 ? Ben Carter Properties announced it has
broken ground to add Kohl?s Department Store to its many other successful
merchants at Columbus Park Crossing. Kohl?s will anchor the newest 350,000
s.f. retail addition along Whittlesey Boulevard opposite the company?s existing
750,000 s.f. retail, entertainment, and restaurant center located at J.R. Allen
Parkway, Veteran?s Parkway, and Whittlesey Boulevard.
A joint venture agreement was formed between Ben Carter Properties and the GEO.
M. Adams Company to develop and own this latest retail addition. The two
companies have worked together since 2000, and along with The Jordan Company
master planned the 400 acre Columbus Park mixed use live, work, dine, play, and
stay development.
Upon full build out, the next 350,000 s.f. phase will represent approximately
$45,000,000 in capital investment in addition to the over $120,000,000 invested
in Columbus Park to date. Upon completion, the company anticipates this next
phase will spur an additional 500 to 600 new jobs to add to the 1,800 jobs it
projects have been created at Columbus Park since its opening in August 2002.
Kohl?s, a full line family apparel, shoe, jewelry, gift, home, and accessories
department store was founded by the Kohl family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in
1962. From its new headquarters in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, the company
currently operates over 650 locations nationwide and its publicly traded stock
is listed among the S&P 500.
The Kohl?s store at Columbus Park Crossing will total approximately 89,000 s.f.
and is scheduled to open in October 2006. Additional national and regional
specialty anchor stores and an array of local merchants are planned to follow
in early 2007. Deals are already in the works for several of the development?s
eight out parcels designed to accommodate restaurants, banks, and retailers
that continue to be attracted to the energy and synergy of Columbus Park.
Steven Cadranel, President of Ben Carter Properties, said ?Columbus has proven
itself to be the dynamic regional hub and retail opportunity we have always
said it was. Our merchants and restauranteurs offer something for everyone and
are attracting people from around the corner, throughout Columbus, and all
across southwest Georgia and southeast Alabama. We are extremely excited to be
adding Kohl?s to the depth and quality of our shopping experience at Columbus
Park Crossing and look forward to announcing additional retailers to the
Columbus market soon.?
Mayor Bob Poydasheff said ?Our city is on a roll! Kohl?s decision to locate
here reflects our region?s booming economic development and compliments our
recent job growth announcements and the unprecedented growth taking place at
AFLAC and Fort Benning.?
Councilman Glenn Davis also commented that ?Columbus is a city whose history
continues to be written every day. Kohl?s decision to come to Columbus Park
Crossing is just the latest sign of our area?s continued growth and momentum.?
The GEO. M. Adams Company said ?We are excited about this new joint venture
with Ben Carter Properties and look forward to see Columbus Park Crossing
continue to be the center of Columbus? retail growth.?
