SUBJECT: Council of Juvenile Court Judges of Georgia



INTIATED BY: City Manager?s Office





RECOMMENDATION: Approval is requested to submit an application and if approved

accept a grant of $15,000 from the Council of Juvenile Court Judges of Georgia

from funds allocated by Congress from the Juvenile Justice Accountability Block

Grant and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by like amount.



BACKGROUND: Funds have been allocated to the State of Georgia to improve the

juvenile justice system in Georgia. Columbus is eligible for $15,000.



ANALYSIS: The funds will be used for counseling services, psychological

evaluations, and residential ? therapeutic care. The grant period begins

October 1, 2003 through September 30, 2004.



FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS: The grant is for $15,000 with no matching funds.

The funds will be used to provide services for youth referred to Juvenile Court.



LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Columbus Consolidated Government has been notified

of its eligibility to receive these funds.



RECOMMENDATION/ACTION: Authorize to submit an application and if approved

accept a grant from the Council of Juvenile Court Judges from funds allocated

by Congress from the Juvenile Justice Accountability Block Grant and amend the

Multi-Governmental Fund by a like amount.
