MINUTES # 35-05



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, August 31, 2005,

at 2:00PM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessors Richard Stallings, Ann

Grantham, William Braxton and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief

Appraiser Martin J. Land.



Assessor Richard Stallings made a motion to approve Minutes # 34-05, Assessor

William Braxton seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously.



The Board approved assessment corrections for real estate.



The Board met with Dr. Fox regarding her 2005 personal property account

#06208701. Dr Fox told the Board she closed her office in March of 2004 and

moved to Canada. She said she sold all of her equipment and gave away the

office furniture before she moved to Canada. She said the only thing she kept

was one computer. Dr Fox said she would pay the 2004 taxes and asked the Board

to remove the 2005 assessment, since she did not have any Business Personal

Property assets on January 1, 2005. Assessor Stallings made a motion to remove

the 2005 assessment. Assessor Hunter seconded the motion. The motion

carried. Chairman Grantham dissented.



The Board met with Pastor Garner of Riverview Assembly of God Church. Pastor

Garner said he was here today requesting some tax relief for property the

church owns at 2517 2nd Avenue (parcel 007 019 002). He told the Board that

the house on the property was torn down last year and in the future the

property would be used for parking or a playground for the children. He said

the property was not being used on January 1, 2005. The Board requested a field

review to verify that the house has been demolished.



The Board reviewed applications for continuation of conservation use

assessments for parcel ID

154 001 023 and 154 001 024 and approved the continuation for 2005. The Board

denied the continuation for Parcel ID 154 001 021.
