A RESOLUTION



NO.



WHEREAS, the Public Safety Committee has recently reviewed the status of

recruitment within various public safety departments and the funding allocated

for public safety recruitment;



WHEREAS, the Committee also reviewed human resources functions in the various

public safety departments as well as minimum education requirements for these

departments;



WHEREAS, the Committee also reviewed the pay plans for public safety and

general government employees;



WHEREAS, the Committee has certain recommendations for the Columbus Council

with respect to these issues.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE OF THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA

HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby recommend that the Columbus Council consider implementation of the

following measures:



1. The Finance Committee should provide additional funding for public

safety recruitment in the FY05 budget.



2. All public safety recruitment should be coordinated through the

Human Resources Department.



3. The Columbus Council should consider consolidation of all human resources

functions.



4. The Columbus Council should adopt the ordinance containing modifications

of educational requirements for public safety departments.



5. The Columbus Council should conduct a comprehensive compensation and

benefits study for the entire consolidated government to include

public safety employees and general government employees.

We hereby accept the above-enumerated recommendations of the Public Safety

Committee and authorize the Mayor and City Manager to consider implementation

of these recommendations.
