Subject Vehicle Immobolization Impoundment

Description Have the staff to look at having a 1-800 telephone number where

individuals can call after hours to contact someone to have the boot removed

from their vehicle. Also, consider having at least two employees on call to be

available to perform this service and provide them with a beeper for someone to

reach them. (Request of Councilor Woodson)

When we send out the letters to the car owners, let?s make sure that we send

them certified mail, return receipt requested. (Request of Councilor Turner

Pugh) Have the staff to provide a list of tickets that were issued within the

last two years, in the counties where we know the owners have tags in Harris,

Russell, Muscogee and Chattahoochee. (Request of Mayor Pro Tem Rodgers)

Response 02/06/04 We will take a look at incorporating some form of telephone

number for after hours. (Councilor Woodson)

We currently send all letters out certified mail, return receipt requested and

this will continue. (Councilor Turner Pugh)

We have contacted the Tag Office to assist with gathering this information on

various counties, however they have told us that it will be difficult to obtain

this information in a short time span. There are over 1500 tags with

outstanding tickets in Georgia and we would provide them with each tag and they

will have to go into their data base and find out the county of each tag. This

is time consuming for them and would take a staff person away from their

regular duties to handle and we have no control of their time schedule in

getting this done for us. We are persuing this request without a timeframe.
