SUBJECT: Elected and Appointed Officials Covered by Workers? Compensation
INITIATED: Human Resources
Recommendation: Approve a Resolution identifying those elected and appointed
officials that will be covered under the Association County Commissioners of
Georgia-Group Self-Insured Workers? Compensation Fund.
Background: On June 27, 2002, Columbus Council approved Resolution No. 407-02
authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Association County
Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) for Workers? Compensation Claims Management.
As part of the implementation process, the ACCG requires the Columbus Council
to identify by resolution, the elected and appointed officials that are
eligible for Workers? Compensation coverage under the contract.
Analysis: There will be no budgetary impact, as these individuals were
previously covered under the City?s self-administered Workers? Compensation
program.
Legal: Approval of the Columbus Council is required.
Financial Considerations: No financial considerations other than listed in
Analysis.
Recommendation/Actions: Recommended by Human Resources.
A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CERTAIN ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS OF THE
CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA TO BE COVERED UNDER WORKERS?
COMPENSATION AND REPEALING RESOLUTIONS OR PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT.
WHEREAS, the Columbus Council authorized a contract for Workers? Compensation
claims management and loss control services through the Association County
Commissioners of Georgia-Group Self-Insured Workers? Compensation Fund, to
cover all employees of the consolidated government; and,
WHEREAS, the Association County Commissioners of Georgia-Group Self-Insured
Workers? Compensation Fund requires the Columbus Council to identify by
resolution, the elected and appointed officials that are eligible for Workers?
Compensation coverage under said fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section I.
That, while performing their elected or appointed duties, Columbus Council,
Mayor, Sheriff, Coroner, Tax Commissioner, Clerk of Superior Court,
Municipal/Magistrate Court Judge, Clerk of Municipal Court, Marshal, State
Court Judges, State Court Solicitor General, Probate Judge, Recorder's Court
Judges, Juvenile Court Judges, Executive Director Trade Center, and Director of
Golf shall be covered under the Association County Commissioners of
Georgia-Group Self-Insured Workers? Compensation Fund, under the Worker?
Compensation laws of the State of Georgia as stated in O.C.G.A. 34-9-1.
Section II.
That, all Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are
repealed.
