A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GEORGIA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

AGENCY (GEMA) FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,623,600 TO ASSIST WITH EMERGENCY

SHELTERING COST FOR HURRICANE KATRINA EVACUEES.



WHEREAS, due to the devastation of the declared disaster (Hurricane Katrina),

numerous citizens were displaced from their residences and had to be sheltered

in other states; and,



WHEREAS, the City of Columbus will enter into a Sub-recipient Agreement with

GEMA; and,



WHEREAS, the City of Columbus submitted an Interim Shelter Plan to GEMA; and,



WHEREAS, the Interim Shelter Plan seeks funding to provide Interim Shelter for

approximately 550 evacuees; and,



WHEREAS, the funding will provide rent, furniture and utilities to the

evacuees; and,



WHEREAS, the City will enter into sub-recipient agreements with the Housing

Authority and Enrichment Services for case management and to ensure contractual

obligation.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:



1. That the Mayor and/or designee are authorized to execute all agreements

associated with this grant funding.



2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept the GEMA funding to

assist with Emergency Sheltering Costs.



3. That the City Manager is authorized to accept any additional funds in the

future associated with this grant agreement.



4. That the Finance Department is authorized to amend the Multi-Governmental

Fund by a like amount to accept the grant funding.



Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia,
