Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
December 18, 2001
Agenda Report #
TO: Mayor and Councilors
SUBJECT: 12th Street Parking Restrictions
INITIATED BY: Department of Engineering
Recommendation: Approve the attached ordinance enacting eight (8) hour parking
time limit along the north curb of 12th Street between the east curb of 5th
Avenue to the west curb of 6th Avenue.
Background: The Traffic Engineering Division received a request to change the
existing two (2) hour parking restrictions along this segment of 12th Street to
an eight (8) hour time limit.
Analysis: This segment of 12th Street is under utilized with the two (2) hour
parking time limit since there are not any active business fronting the north
curb. Businesses along 6th Avenue have a need for long term parking for which
this change will assist.
Alternatives: The existing traffic ordinance may remain in effect.
Financial Considerations: The Traffic Engineering Division will change parking
signs to reflect the eight (8) hour parking restrictions at a cost of about
$75.00.
Legal Considerations: A change in any traffic ordinances requires Council
approval.
Recommendations/Actions: Approve the change in parking time limits along this
segment of 12th Street to eight (8) hours.
