Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
07/30/2002
Agenda Report #
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Addressing
INITIATED BY: Richard Bishop, Deputy City Manager
Recommendation: Approve Columbus Code Section 18-53 entiled "Address
Assignments"
Background: The Engineering Department and Public Safety (911) have
been working to insure that correct addresses are in the 911 communication
system. Two areas, apartment complexes and large rural areas that have been
subdivided have been identified as areas of concern where correct addresses
are not in the system. These areas are given addresses that are not on streets
that have been accepted by the City. When this occurs, a call to 911, will
not provide the correct address for 911 response vehicles. The ordinance change
will provide the opportunity for apartments and rural areas to have streets
recognized for addressing purposes only.
Analysis: City Staff and representative from apartments complex have been
working together on this change.
Financial Considerations: There will be no cost to the City. Apartment owners
will be provided a transition
Legal Considerations: The City Attorney has reviewed this ordinance change and
approves.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve Columbus Code Section 18-53 entiled "Address
Assignments"
