A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND IF APPROVED

ACCEPT UP TO $50,280 IN FUNDING FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE BULLETPROOF VEST

PARTNERSHIP GRANT TO SUPPORT THE COSTS OF BUYING BODY ARMOR FOR THE COLUMBUS

POLICE DEPARTMENT.



WHEREAS, the Columbus Consolidated Government is committed to providing

body armor to law enforcement officers in the city; and,



WHEREAS, the Department of Justice has initiated the Bulletproof Vest

Partnership Grant of 2004 to provide funding to assist units of local

government in equipping law enforcement officers with body armor; and,



WHEREAS, the Department of Justice will reimburse local governments for

up to 50% of the cost of body armor; and,



WHEREAS, funding for body armor is allocated in the FY04 budget; and



WHEREAS, the Columbus Police Department requests permission to make

application to receive up to $50,280.00 in funding to assist in the purchase of

body armor.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



The City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and if

approved accept $50,280 in funding from the Department of Justice Bulletproof

Partnership Program.
