Columbus, Georgia

WHEREAS, the Columbus Blazers Basketball Team (13-year-old) recently won the

Youth Basketball of America National Championship in Lakeland, Florida;



WHEREAS, over 50 teams from around the Country competed in this National

tournament;



WHEREAS, the Blazers, part of the Columbus Parks and Recreation Innovative

Sports Program, finished the tournament with a record of 8-0 and defeated the

team from Hollywood, Florida 68-65 to win the championship;



WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Columbus Blazers are worthy of special

recognition by this Council.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and congratulate the Columbus Blazers Basketball Team members

Andre Young, Jarvis Jones, Steve Peterson, Corion Strozier, Dexter Ellington,

Charles Martin, Brandon Browner, DeAndre Johnson, Gary Whitfield and Carlos

Ross and Coaches Tony Adams, Desmond Timmons and Colie Young upon their

championship victory in the 2003 Youth Basketball of America National

Tournament. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the above-named

participants.

12th day of August, 2003, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote
