Council Members
A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Samuel Coffin, a fifth-grade student at Brookstone School, recently
won the 2002 National Geographic Bee of Georgia;
WHEREAS, the competition was held on Friday, April 5, 2002 at Georgia College &
State University in Milledgeville;
WHEREAS, Samuel will compete in the national competition on May 21-22, 2002 in
Washington, D.C. against 54 other state and territory champions for a $25,000
college scholarship;
WHEREAS, he is believed to be the youngest state winner in Georgia's 14-year
history of running a geography bee;
WHEREAS, Samuel previously finished eighth in the Georgia competition as a
fourth-grader;
WHEREAS, Samuel's accomplishments are worthy of special recognition by this
Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Samuel Coffin upon winning the 2002 National
Geographic Bee of Georgia and his teacher at Brookstone School, Mike Bonaker,
for his coaching assistance. We wish Samuel every success in the national
competition in Washington, D.C. Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to
Samuel Coffin and Mike Bonaker.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
7th day of May, 2002, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
ten members of Council.
