The Board of Elections and Voter Registration Board Meeting were called to

order by the chairperson, Mr. Walter J. Wright, Jr.

Motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes of the May board meeting.

Vote was unanimous.

COMMENTS:

The Director stated to the Board that the Council Members were briefed on HB

244 letting everyone know of the changes that will be made in conducting

elections upon approval of the Justice Department.

NEW BUSINESS:

Each Board member was given a copy of a synopsis for the new rules of the

Georgia Soil and Conservation election in which the Board will be expected to

follow in conducting the election. The Soil and Conservation will provide the

ballots, the call for the election in the newspaper and provide the envelopes.

We will be responsible for verifying a petition if one is submitted. We will

actually be involved in tabulating the votes. There will only be one precinct

required to open, which will be the elections office. The election will be

held May 2006.

OLD BUSINESS:

Voter Certificates: The issue will be brought before the Board until a

decision is made as to whether or not they will be used during the upcoming

elections.

We will receive 96 voter express polls as the state allocation. Even though

Richmond County and Muscogee County are comparable to size in registered

voters, because of the way they report their precincts they are allocated from

the state a larger number of units. They report each split in the precincts as

another precinct. Nancy questioned the difference in the number of equipment

being allocated and was told by Kathy Rogers that it was too late for anything

to be changed. The Board asked that Nancy send a letter from the Board, to

Cathy Cox copied to Kathy Rogers and the council members, to appeal the

allocation of the express poll equipment.

CORRESPONDENCE:

None received

Being no further business to discuss, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn

the meeting. Vote was unanimous.
