Council Members
WHEREAS, Candace Turner, a 2003 graduate of Columbus State University, recently
received the NCAA Woman of the Year Award for the State of Georgia;
WHEREAS, the Woman of the Year Award honors not only athletic performance, but
also academic achievement and community involvement;
WHEREAS, Candace served as Lady Cougar basketball team captain for the past two
seasons, graduated in June with a 3.5 GPA in early childhood education and
received the 2003 Charles Eason Leadership Award at CSU;
WHEREAS, during her four years at CSU, the Lady Cougars won 108 games,
including two trips to the Division II Elite Eight, two South Atlantic Regional
Championships, two Peach Belt Conference regular season titles, two PBC
Tournament titles and CSU's first No. 1 ranking during the 31-1 season of
2000-2001;
WHEREAS, Candace's accomplishments are worthy of special recognition by this
Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Candace Turner upon her receipt of the 2003
NCAA Woman of the Year Award for the State of Georgia. Columbus is truly proud
of Candace and we wish her every success in the future. Let a copy of this
resolution be forwarded to Candace Turner and CSU Coach Jay Sparks.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
30th day of September, 2003, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative
vote of ten members of Council.
