RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Colonel Richard E. Gordon, Staff Judge Advocate at Fort Benning,
Georgia, will be leaving Fort Benning to assume new duties overseas;
WHEREAS, Colonel Gordon has supported many projects in partnership with the
Consolidated Government including the Fort Benning land swap to create
additional parkland and industrial sites and the relocation of the National
Infantry Museum;
WHEREAS, he also assisted Columbus with negotiations among different Native
American representatives, Columbus and Fort Benning with respect to historic
sites;
WHEREAS, Colonel Gordon graduated from Melbourne Central Catholic High School
in 1971, magna cum laude from Florida State University in 1976 with a degree in
history and political science, and from Florida State University College of Law
in 1979;
WHEREAS, he has served the U. S. Army in the Third Infantry Division as Trial
Counsel in Schweinfurt, Germany, as Trial Defense Counsel and Chief of Legal
Assistance at Fort Hood, Texas, as Officer in Charge of the Rheinberg Law
Center in Germany, as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate of the 10th Mountain Division
at Fort Drum, New York and was also assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in
Washington, D. C. in 1995;
WHEREAS, this Council desires to express its appreciation to Colonel Richard
E. Gordon for his service to his country and the Columbus community.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend Colonel Richard E. Gordon, Staff Judge Advocate at Fort
Benning, Georgia and express our deep appreciation to him for his dedicated
service to his country and the community of Columbus, Georgia. We wish him
every success as he assumes his new duties for the U. S. Army. Let a copy of
this Resolution be forwarded to Colonel Richard E. Gordon.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
30th day of April, 2002, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
