A RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Honorable Aaron Cohn, Juvenile Court Judge, was recently honored at
the dedication of the Aaron Cohn Regional Youth Detention Center in Columbus;
WHEREAS, Judge Cohn has worked for nearly 40 years in the fields of child
advocacy and juvenile justice and is a recognized leader in these areas
throughout the country;
WHEREAS, Judge Cohn graduated from Columbus High School in 1932 and from the
University of Georgia's Lumpkin School of Law in 1938;
WHEREAS, he became a U. S. Army officer in 1940 and during World War II,
fought with a reconnaissance unit of General George Patton's Third Army, and
trained with the U. S. Army Reserve until retiring as a colonel after 27 years;
WHEREAS, Judge Cohn was appointed in 1965 as Juvenile Court Judge and has spent
nearly 50 years on the bench teaching young people in our community and
imposing fair but necessary sentences in his Court;
WHEREAS, Judge Cohn has been honored by the Georgia General Assembly and his
accomplishments are worthy of special recognition by this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Juvenile Court Judge Aaron Cohn upon the
naming of the Aaron Cohn Regional Youth Detention Center in Columbus. His
service to his community, his state and his country will long be remembered.
Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Aaron Cohn.
