Subject Taxicab Licensing



Description Please have staff to provide information as to whether or not the

Taxicab Commission review applications for licensing and if there is a limit on

the number of license.

Response As in our discussion, there is no limit to the number of Cab Companies

an individual can have. Each additional company must still meet all the

requirements of the ordinance. The Taxicab Commission does not review the

applications for licensing purposes and it is not recommended since the

commission is largely made up people involved in the industry who might be in

direct competition with any new taxi business. The Police Department currently

reviews the application for compliance with the City Ordinance and submits it

to Council for final approval.
