A RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin L. Coles, Sr. of Columbus died on June 4,
2004;
WHEREAS, Sgt. Coles served a tour in Vietnam and retired from the Army in 1976
as a Sergeant 1st Class;
WHEREAS, he was a devoted Boy Scout leader and helped start Troop 46 in
Columbus;
WHEREAS, he served as a Deacon at Greater Beallwood Baptist Church and often
visited hospital patients;
WHEREAS, he was the President of the Moline Avenue neighborhood club which
organized neighborhood special events;
WHEREAS, he was an avid gardener and routinely tended the gardens of his
neighbors;
WHEREAS, Sgt. Coles is survived by his wife, Roeaster Coles and his stepson,
Roland Howard.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of
Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin L. Coles, Sr. His service to his country and to the
Columbus community will long be remembered. Let a copy of this resolution be
forwarded to the family of Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin L. Coles, Sr.
