A RESOLUTION



NO.



WHEREAS, Barbara Golden Pound of Columbus died on June 26, 2003;



WHEREAS, Mrs. Pound was born November 29, 1925, in Columbus, Georgia, the

daughter of Theodore Golden Pound and Lyda May Key Golden and the twin sister

of Elizabeth (Bettie) Lennard Golden Tyler;



WHEREAS, Mrs. Pound attended Wynnton Elementary School and Columbus High

School, and graduated from Sweetbriar College with a degree in Art;



WHEREAS, Mrs. Pound was a founder of the Columbus Museum in 1953 and was an art

teacher for many years in Columbus;



WHEREAS, Mrs. Pound was a community volunteer as a member of the Junior League

of Columbus, Chattahoochee Valley Episcopal Ministry and the Muscogee County

Humane Society, among others;



WHEREAS, Mrs. Pound was a long-time advocate for civil rights in Columbus and

was a member and volunteer with the Greater Columbus Urban League;



WHEREAS, Mrs. Pound loved nothing more than to share her time and talents with

others and founded programs such as TAP, the Thompson-Pound Art Program, a

multi-cultural art camp for young children representing diverse cultures and

faiths;



WHEREAS, Mrs. Pound was the devoted wife to Murphey Pound, Jr. for forty-nine

years and the loving mother to sons, Murphey Garrett Pound, Theodore E.G.

Pound, and James Key Pound, and to eight grandchildren.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby convey to the family of Mrs. Barbara Golden Pound our sincere

condolences and deepest sympathy. The beauty she brought to the Columbus

community and her public service will long be remembered. Let a copy of this

resolution be forwarded to the family of Mrs. Barbara Golden Pound.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
