AN ORDINANCE

An Ordinance amending the General Government and the Public Safety Pension

Plans and the Major Disability Income Plan by changing the percentage of the

member's average monthly earnings from two percent to one and one-half percent

in determining the amount of normal retirement pension, late retirement pension

and the amount of disability retirement pension for eligible employees hired

after June 30, 2003; and for other purposes.

THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY ORDAINS:



SECTION 1.



Section 2, Subsection 2.01 of the Columbus, Georgia Employees' Pension Plan is

hereby amended by adding the following language:



"Provided, however, for any eligible employee hired after June 30, 2003, the

accrued monthly pension shall be determined as follows: One and one-half

percent of the member's average monthly earnings multiplied by the member's

number of years creditable service as of any given date, subject to a maximum

of 30 years of creditable service. "



SECTION 2.



Section 2, Subsection 2.01 of the Columbus, Georgia Pension Plan for Employees

of the Department of Public Safety is hereby amended by adding the following

language:



"Provided, however, for any eligible employee hired after June 30, 2003, the

accrued monthly pension shall be determined as follows: One and one-half

percent of the member's average monthly earnings multiplied by the member's

number of years creditable service subject to a maximum of 30 years of

creditable service."



SECTION 3.



Section 4, Subsection 4.02(a) of the Columbus, Georgia Major Disability Income

Plan is hereby amended by adding the following language:



"Provided, however, for any eligible employee hired after June 30, 2003, the

amount of monthly Disability Benefit shall be based upon forty-five (45)

percent of the Member's Earnings."



SECTION 4.



For all plans amended in Sections 1, 2 and 3 of this ordinance,

part-time employees hired before July 1, 2003 who assume full-time employment

after July 1, 2003 shall only accrue pension benefits at the rate of one and

one-half percent of the member's average monthly earnings multiplied by the

member's number of years creditable service subject to a maximum of 30 years of

creditable service.





SECTION 5.



This ordinance shall become effective on July 1, 2003.



SECTION 6.

All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are

hereby repealed.
