A RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Commissioner Jim Wetherington of the Department of Corrections
was instrumental in assigning a Mobile Construction Team to complete a number
of construction projects in the Government Center complex;
WHEREAS, the projects completed by this Mobile Construction Team have
greatly enhanced operations in the Government Center complex and significantly
reduced construction costs;
WHEREAS, the initial project called for a renovation of the third and
fourth floors of the Government Center, however, as a direct result of
Commissioner Wetherington's support, projects were also completed in the east
and west wing, the basement and the cafeteria area;
WHEREAS, major improvements were made in the following locations: the
Human Resources Department, the Board of Elections, the Revenue Collections
Division of the Finance Department, the government learning center, the
cafeteria, the Sheriff's training complex and Sheriff's offices, the District
Attorney's office, Judge Jordan's office area and, the Senior Judge's area;
WHEREAS, vast improvements and enhancements yielded a significant
improvement in the work environments, the utilization of space and the
aesthetics of our facility;
WHEREAS, the Mobile Construction Team which consisted of state inmates
was supervised by Mr. Dean Joyce and Mr. Charles Jarriel of the Department of
Corrections. This Team preformed in an exemplary manner, working diligently,
taking pride in their work, and demonstrating extreme patience while employing
their professional skills and abilities to produce quality construction at a
minimal costs for the taxpayers of Columbus.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
On behalf of the citizens of the City of Columbus, we hereby commend and
express our deepest appreciation to Commissioner Jim Wetherington of the
Georgia Department of Corrections for his support of our government. The
potential of the Government Center renovation project could not have been
realized without the allocation of valuable resources from the Department of
Corrections. We are grateful to the Commissioner for his commitment to the
improvement of the Government Center complex and his willingness to expand the
scope of the projects well beyond the original proposal. Let a copy of this
Resolution be forwarded to Commissioner Jim Wetherington.
