2005 Proposed Legislative Agenda





1. Hazardous and Solid Waste Funding:



Introduce legislation to mandate that funds collected for waste tire removal be

placed in the Hazardous Waste Fund and the Solid Waste Fund instead of being

diverted elsewhere. (Carmen Cavezza)



2. Green space Funding:



Introduce legislation to fund the Greenspace Program. (Carmen Cavezza)



3. Family Coalition:



Support legislation to continue funding for the Family Coalition.



4. Industrial and Port Authority:



Introduce legislation to repeal Section 4-623 of Columbus Charter to delete

Industrial and Port Authority. Any action required by the Industrial and Port

Authority can be handled by the Development Authority. (Mayor Pro Tem Jack

5. Infantry Museum:



Introduce legislation allowing for concurrent jurisdiction for police and fire,

local and federal, for Infantry Museum. (Carmen Cavezza)

6. Minimum Alternative Real Estate Tax (MART):



Introduce legislation to authorize a Minimum Alternative Real Estate Tax (MART)

for Columbus, Georgia. (Mayor Poydasheff)



7. UGA Cooperative Extension Services:



Support continued funding for the University of Georgia

Cooperative Extension Service and its county delivery system. Future success

in extension programming is threatened by continuing budget reductions.
