A RESOLUTION

No.



WHEREAS, Mr. Frank DuBois Chester, former Columbus Councilor, passed away at

his home on October 19, 2005;



WHEREAS, Mr. Chester?s career began at the Army Airforce Exchange

Services where he worked for six years, before entering the U.S. Army for three

additional years;



WHEREAS, Mr. Chester supervised the world?s largest Army PX in Vietnam and

retired in 1977 as the Supervisor of all Post Exchange Branches at Ft. Benning;



WHEREAS, he was a member of the First African Baptist Church for more than

fifty years and served as a Columbus Councilor for twenty years;



WHEREAS, he was an active member of many boards and organizations such as

Golden Gate Exchange Region, Medical Center Board of Trustees, Chairman of the

Medical Center Authority, YMCA, SO-C-25, South Kiwanis Club, National League of

Cities, and the Georgia Municipal Association.



WHEREAS, Mr. Chester also earned many awards and citations, such as the Joe

Frank Harris Award for Post, Medical Center Hospital Authority Community

Service Award, Credit Union Citation for Meritorious Service, the Medal for

Civilian Services in Vietnam, AAFES Meritorious Civilian Award, 1980 Service

Award from the First African Baptist Church, YMCA Certificate of Appreciation,

Jack Brinkley Certificate of Merit, and Certificate for Outstanding Dedicated

Service from the Moderns INC.



Whereas, he is survived by his wife, Joann ?Jo? Ford Chester, their two

daughters, Lillie Brown and Shakita Ford, grandchildren Tonya M. Johnson,

Xavier ?Partner? Ford, great grandchildren Kassandria Hollinhead, Kemen

Cromartie, special nieces, Michalene Chester, Jean Manning, sisters-in-law,

Brenda Brooks and Carol Harris, brothers-in-law. Robert Ford, Charles Brooks

and Lawrence Brooks.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of

Mr. Frank DuBois Chester. His service to the Columbus community and to his

country will long be remembered. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to

the family of Mr. Frank DuBois Chester.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
