Council Members
WHEREAS, Dr. Charles A. Parker of Columbus died on April 11, 2002;
WHEREAS, Dr. Parker graduated from Baker High School and earned degrees from
Georgia Southwestern College, Georgia Southern University, Auburn University,
and received a doctorate in education from Columbia University in New York;
WHEREAS, he served as principal of schools in Dekalb County, Milledgeville and
Columbus and served for fourteen years as a professor and Dean of the College
of Education at Columbus State University, retiring in 1983;
WHEREAS, from 1984 to 1995, he managed the local offices of Georgia Legal
Services;
WHEREAS, Dr. Parker was also instrumental in the formation of the Columbus
Metropolitan Task Force for the Homeless, served as the Chairman of the Task
Force beginning in 1994, and volunteered forty hours a week for eight years;
WHEREAS, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War
and he was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Columbus.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of
Dr. Charles A. Parker. His contributions to the Columbus community and his
service to his country will long be remembered. Let a copy of this
Resolution be forwarded to the family of Dr. Charles A. Parker.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on
the 30TH day of April, 2002, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative
vote of ten members of said Council.
