An ordinance revising the organizational chart for the Columbus

Department of Fire and Emergency and Medical Services; and amending the

position Classification Plan and Pay Plan of the Consolidated Government as

specified on the attached organizational chart and list of authorized staffing.

THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY ORDAINS:



SECTION 1.



Section 2 of Ordinance No. 01-56 is hereby repealed in its entirety and

it is hereby replaced with the attached organizational chart and list of

authorized staffing and the same are incorporated herein by reference. The

Position Classification Plan and the Pay Plan of the Consolidated Government

are hereby amended as indicated on the attached organizational chart and list

of authorized staffing.



SECTION 2.



The Columbus Consolidated Government Classification Plan shall be amended to

delete the positions of Paramedic/FireMedic I, Grade 12; and

Paramedic/FireMedic II, Grade 13. Personnel currently classified in these

positions shall be reclassified as Firefighter/EMT, FireMedic, EMT, or

Paramedic, with current Grade 12 personnel reclassified as Grade 9 and current

Grade 13 personnel reclassified as Grade 10. Personnel so reclassified shall

receive a reduction in their base salaries equal to the current differential

between the entry salary for Grade 10 and Grade 13 and shall immediately begin

to receive Paramedic Certification Pay, payable biweekly, if qualified and

delineated herein. EMS Division Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains, although

not reclassified shall also receive adjustments to their base salaries

proportional to and assuring the same increase in total compensation as the

Paramedics.



The Columbus Consolidated Government Pay Plan shall be amended to include

Paramedic Certification Pay for personnel of the Department of Fire and

Emergency Medical Services who are certified and licensed by the state of

Georgia as Paramedics; and, who are actively working as Paramedics, supervising

the work of Paramedics or providing emergency medical training to department

personnel. Paramedic Certification Pay shall be an independent component of

the qualifying employees total compensation separate from the base salary,

shall not be included in merit or other pay adjustments to the basic salary but

shall be included in the computation of overtime as prescribed by the Fair

Labor Standards Act. The dollar amount of Paramedic Certification Pay shall

vary based upon the rank of the employee and said amount may be adjusted from

time to time upon the recommendation of the Human Resources Director and the

authorization of the Columbus Council.

SECTION 3.



This ordinance shall become effective on the 9th day of October ,

2002.



SECTION 4.



All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are

hereby repealed.
