SUBJECT: Governor?s Discretionary Funds

Recommendation: Accept responsibility as Pass-Through Agency for a $25,000
Governor?s Discretionary Funds Grant for the Columbus Sports and Events Council
to assist with operation costs for the Georgia Police and Fire Games 2002 and
other events.
Background: The Columbus Sports and Events Council is administering the
Georgia Police and Fire Games 2002 and other events. As this is an event
recognizing Public Safety Officers from across the state, the Governor?s Office
felt it would be appropriate to assist with operation costs incurred by the
Sports Council.
Financial Considerations: No matching funds are required from the local
government.
Legal Considerations: The City of Columbus must be responsible for oversight
of funding received as the Pass-Through Agency.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE APPLICATION FOR AND ACCEPTANCE OF A
PASS-THROUGH GRANT FROM THE GOVERNOR?S DISCRETIONARY FUND FOR $25,000 TO ASSIST
WITH OPERATION COSTS FOR THE COLUMBUS SPORTS AND EVENTS COUNCIL TO ADMINISTER
THE GEORGIA POLICE AND FIRE GAMES AND OTHER EVENTS AND AMEND THE
MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY LIKE AMOUNT.
WHEREAS, Columbus, as the local government agency, is the conduit for certain
grants appropriated by the Governor?s Office for various community agencies;
and,
WHEREAS, upon acceptance of the application and execution of contract, the
Columbus Consolidated Government will receive funds and then process payment to
the Columbus Sports and Events Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
1. That the pass-through grant application, subsequent contract and funds be
processed by Columbus for the Columbus Sports and Events Council as
appropriated by the Governor?s Office.
2. That the Mayor, City Manager and other officials of Columbus are authorized
to take such actions as required to satisfy the grant conditions.
INTRODUCED at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held on
