WHEREAS, the Columbus Regional Tennis Association (CORTA) was recently named
the 2002 USTA Member Organization of the Year;
WHEREAS, the award was presented to CORTA on Tuesday, March 26 during the USTA
annual meeting at Marco Island Florida;
WHEREAS, since 1952, CORTA has been dedicated and committed to helping the
growth of tennis in Columbus and throughout the state of Georgia;
WHEREAS, CORTA has the ninth largest Community Tennis Association
player participation base in the USTA Southern Section, which includes nine
southern states;
WHEREAS, CORTA has over 1500 adult and junior members, actively
develops local tennis with the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, and
hosts several prestigious Southern and Georgia Tennis Association tournaments,
including the GTA Senior State Championships, the Southern Senior Cup and the
Southern Open 16s;
WHEREAS, CORTA's achievement is worthy of special recognition by this
Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate CORTA President-Elect Helen Martin and all
local CORTA members upon winning the award for the 2002 USTA Member
Organization of the Year. CORTA has spurred tremendous tennis growth in the
Columbus community and we are extremely proud of their efforts. Let a copy of
this Resolution be forwarded to CORTA President-Elect Helen Martin.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held on
the 2nd day of April, 2002, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote
of ten members of said Council.
