A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND IF APPROVED ACCEPT
$102,340.00 IN FUNDING FROM THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, FIREARMS
AND EXPLOSIVES TO SUPPORT THE COSTS OF THE GANG RESISTANCE EDUCATION AND
TRAINING PROGRAM ( G.R.E.A.T. PROGRAM). AMEND THE FY04 MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND
BY THE AMOUNT OF THE GRANT.
WHEREAS, the Columbus Consolidated Government and the Columbus Police
Department are committed to programs designed to decrease gang violence and
gang membership; and,
WHEREAS, the G.R.E.A.T. Program has provided educational and alternative
programs to juveniles who are at risk; and,
WHEREAS, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is
currently accepting applications for a Co-Operative Agreement specifically for
the G.R.E.A.T. Program which requires no matching funds from the Columbus
Consolidated Government; and,
WHEREAS, The Columbus Police Department has requested permission to make
application for the amount of $102,340.00 to support this program;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and if
approved accept $102,340.00 in funding from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for the operation of the Gang Resistance
Education and Training Program and amend the Multi Governmental Fund by the
grant award of $102,340.
