WHEREAS, Mr. John Holt Moye of Columbus died on September 7, 2002;



WHEREAS, Mr. Moye was born on April 4, 1914 in Columbus and attended Wynnton

School, Columbus High School and graduated from the University of Georgia in

1936 with a degree in Commerce;



WHEREAS, he worked as a salesman for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company

and was drafted into the Army Air Corps in 1942 for service during World War II;



WHEREAS, after the war, he returned to Northwestern Mutual and in 1948, joined

the newly formed Blue Cross-Blue Shield Plan in Columbus as their first

salesman with his years thereafter marked by loyalty to fellow employees and

integrity in the performance of his corporate duties;



WHEREAS, he became President of the Columbus Plan which provided Blue

Cross-Blue Shield coverage in 131 Georgia counties by the date of his

retirement in 1983 and which provided health insurance coverage for the

employees of the City of Columbus;



WHEREAS, Mr. Moye was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church where

he had served as Deacon and Elder and he was a member of the Columbus Rotary

Club;



WHEREAS, he was a charter member of this nation's "Greatest Generation" whose

personal values were anchored in lessons learned during the Great Depression,

whose dedication to freedom was proven in World War II, and whose business

acumen was brought home after the war to build the strongest economy the world

has ever seen;



WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife Laurene Kennon Moye of Columbus, children

James and Pam Moye of Columbus and Leslie and Susan Moye of Belmont,

Massachusetts and grandchildren Mindy Moye, John Moye, Robbie Moye, Jamie Moye

and Lauren Moye.



NOW, THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby convey to the family of Mr. John Holt Moye our sincere condolences

and deepest sympathy. His service to his country and the Columbus community

will long be remembered. Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the

family of Mr. John Holt Moye.
