Animal Shelter - Status Report

On December 7, 2005, I met with all parties involved in designing the new

Animal Shelter. As you know we've gone back to the drawing board due to the

size of the first shelter designed by Larry Gates of Animal Arts in Boulder,

Colorado. It was apparent that neither we nor PAWS could supplement the

operational costs for his design, a 37,000 sq. ft. building.

PAWS Columbus, Inc., has contracted with Barnes & Company, local architects, to

design a two building complex for the new animal shelter. One building will

house PAWS Columbus, Inc. and the other will house the Special Enforcement

Division. With this new concept each agency will be responsible for it's own

operational costs. We, CCG, are looking at a building between 12,000 and

14,000 sq. ft. We are anxious to present to you and the Council new drawings

and costs factors for the new design.

During this meeting, we (PAWS Columbus, Inc. and Animal Care and Control)

identified areas within the old drawings that we will need in the new design.

All other areas were deleted from our program. From this point a design

charette will be developed by Barnes and Company and should be presented to us

by mid January. In the meantime, Mr. Chuck Staples, Atty @ Law, with Hatcher

Stubbs Law Firm is handling the Memorandum of Agreement between the CCG and

PAWS Columbus, Inc. This agreement will be forwarded to Clifton.

We will continue to meet and currently we are working on flow charts of all

processes to forward to Barnes and Company. Once they receive this information

they will schedule another meeting with us to show us preliminary drawings

based on how we want the building to flow and to flow with our processes. I

will keep you all posted as we continue through this process.

Have a good evening,

Drale Short
