A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Congressman Michael Allen (Mac) Collins will be leaving the United
States Congress after representing the people of the 8th District for six terms;
WHEREAS, Congressman Collins has been a longtime member of the Ways and Means
Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence;
WHEREAS, he has also served on the subcommittees on Terrorism and Homeland
Security, Human Intelligence Analysis and Counterintelligence and Technical and
Tactical Intelligence;
WHEREAS, at the age of 18, he started his own business, Collins Trucking, and
he has supported small business owners throughout his legislative career;
WHEREAS, Congressman Collins served as Chairman of the Butts County Commission
from 1977 to 1981 and was elected to two terms in the Georgia State Senate
before running for Congress in 1992, when he defeated a 10-year incumbent;
WHEREAS, during his tenure, he has faithfully supported our armed forces,
including the officers, troops and civilian personnel at Fort Benning, Georgia
and he served in the National Guard from 1964-1970;
WHEREAS, he is married to the former Julie Watkins, has four children, Mike,
Crystal, April and Andy and 11 grandchildren.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our deep appreciation to Congressman Mac Collins for his
years of dedicated service to the people of the 8th District, to the entire
State of Georgia and to his country. We wish him every success in the future.
Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Congressman Mac Collins.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
12th day of October, 2004, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote
