Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
8/2/2005
Agenda Report # ___10___
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Amendment to Contract for Maintenance of Highways
INITIATED BY: Department of Public Services
__________________________________________________________________
Recommendation: Approval is requested to amend the contract for maintenance of
highways by increasing the payment from the state from $2500.00 per mile to
$3500.00 per mile.
Background: In June 1987 the city entered into a contract with the State of
Georgia to perform maintenance on state highways for $2500.00 per mile, per
year. The contract expires in the year 2037. In July 2003, the Director of
Public Services petitioned the Georgia Department of Transportation to increase
the amount paid to the city to coincide with the increase cost of operation.
Analysis: The increase payment proposed by the Georgia Department of
Transportation will offset the cost of the maintenance of the state routes
performed by the Department of Public Services.
Financial Considerations: The proposed amendment will increase the annual
payment from the Georgia Department of Transportation to the City of Columbus
from $210,650.00 to $342,895.00, an increase of $132,245.00.
Legal Consideration: The agreement amends the payment made by the GDOT only.
No additional risk is assumed by amending this document.
Recommendation: The council adopt the proposed resolution authorizing the City
Manager to amend the said contract.
